The Oshkosh community is mourning the untimely death of 2nd grader Emily Potratz, a beloved student at Emmeline Cook Elementary School and an active member of the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). Emily’s passing has left her family, classmates, teachers, and the entire community in deep sorrow. The loss of this young, vibrant soul is a reminder of the preciousness of life and the profound impact that one bright and loving child can have on the lives of so many.
Emily, who was known for her kindness, energy, and enthusiasm for learning, had just begun to explore the world with the wide-eyed wonder typical of young children. Her teachers described her as an eager student who approached every task with a smile. Whether it was reading, participating in classroom activities, or asking questions about the world around her, Emily’s curiosity was infectious. She had an exceptional ability to connect with others, always ready to lend a hand or share a smile with her peers. Emily’s positive energy made her a cherished presence in the classroom, and her classmates adored her for her fun-loving spirit.
Outside of the classroom, Emily was an enthusiastic participant in the Emmeline Cook PTO. Despite her young age, she took pride in helping out at school events and showing her support for the teachers and staff who worked hard to create a nurturing learning environment. She often helped organize school activities and fundraisers, embodying the spirit of community and collaboration that the PTO aimed to foster. Emily’s dedication to her school and her friends was evident in everything she did, and she was a true role model for her peers.
Emily’s family, who were always involved in her school life, described her as a loving daughter and sister who brought joy into their home every day. She had a natural ability to make those around her feel special, and her generosity and empathy for others shone through in her everyday actions. Whether it was sharing toys with her younger siblings or comforting a friend, Emily’s caring nature was beyond her years.
The Oshkosh community is left with the memory of a bright young girl whose smile could light up any room. Though she was taken from this world too soon, Emily’s spirit and the love she shared with others will never be forgotten. Her family has expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community during this incredibly difficult time.
A memorial service and funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days, allowing friends, family, and members of the community to come together and celebrate Emily’s life. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Emmeline Cook PTO to support the school programs that Emily was so passionate about.
Emily Potratz’s passing is a tragic loss, but her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. The impact she made in her short time here will continue to inspire kindness, generosity, and a love for learning. Emily will forever be remembered as a light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
